“Steeped” supports LA premiere of “Landlocked”

A couple of years ago Peter worked as the 2nd unit Director of Photography on a short film in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The film, “Landlocked“, directed by Jerry Melichar of Focus Features in New York City, is touring the country for its premiere screenings. The short film follows a high school teacher as she struggles to help her students raise money for a class trip. Melichar describes the film as “a dark comedic thriller.”

“Steeped” will be screening alongside the LA premiere of “Landlocked.” Directors Jerry Melichar and Peter Hermes as well as producer Diana Bayless will be in attendance.

“steeped” returns to PDX to screen at the Bagdad Theatre!

The short film we shot in SE Portland will be returning to its home in August. “Steeped” will screen alongside other local shorts at one of our favorite movie venues ever, McMenamins Bagdad Theatre, located at 3702 SE Hawthorne Blvd. in Portland, Oregon.

The screening is one night only:
August 18, 2009, doors at 6 p.m.

All ages, Minor* with Parent, Doors at 6:00 pm, Films start at 7:00 pm. Admission will be $3 to the event screening and can only be purchased at the door starting at 6 pm the night of the event. Each patron will receive a ballot to vote for her/his favorite short. The ballots, along with the judges’ scores, will be tallied and the winners determined.

There will be a $200 cash 1st prize and a $75 McMenamin Gift Card 2nd prize giveaway. Voting will be by audience ballot and by a panel of pre-selected judges. The winners will be determined by a combination of 50% audience vote and 50% judges’ vote.

“steeped” goes international

wideshot studios has just received word that “Steeped,” our most recent short narrative film, has been accepted to compete at the 2009 Salento International Film Festival in Tricase, Italy.

Located on the Adriatic Sea on the “heel” of Italy’s “boot,” the Salento Film Festival is in its 6th year and celebrates independent cinema. We are extremely honored to have this prestigious film festival be the kick-off point for our European tour.

“Steeped” screens as part of “The World in Short” competition alongside short films from around the globe.

“Steeped” to screen at deadCENTER ‘09!

wideshot studios will be traveling to Oklahoma this June for deadCENTER 2009, as it was just announced that “Steeped” has been accepted to this well-respected film festival! “Steeped,” the short film we shot in Portland, Oregon, will screen Friday, June 12 (Diana’s birthday!) at 5:30pm and Saturday, June 13 at 7:30pm at Uptown United in Oklahoma City. We’ll be in attendance at both screenings.

We’re excited for the trip back to Oklahoma and are looking forward to the festival. This will be the second year wideshot studios has had a film in this festival, and it is Peter’s ninth consecutive year to have a film screened with deadCENTER. wideshot studios tackles Los Angeles

wideshot studios has relocated from beautiful Portland, Oregon to sunny Los Angeles, CA. We are currently in the process of getting our offices put back together and learning our new city, so business has been put on hold for the moment. We will be up and running soon!

Here are a few updates to tide you over until our official SoCal launch:

Our website will be taking on a new look and feel in the coming weeks and months.

“Steeped,” our most recent short film, is still currently on the film festival circuit, and we are awaiting word from several more festivals.

Peter is currently writing a screenplay, and Diana is putting finishing touches on her most recent dramatic script. We are very excited about both projects.

Next stop for “Steeped”… The da Vinci Film Festival

Our short film “Steeped,” is traveling the film festival circuit and can next be seen in Corvallis, Oregon at the da Vinci Film Festival. In its 10th year, the festival is part of a larger celebration of art, science, and technology called da Vinci Days. The film festival takes place in March, and da Vinci Days happens in July, so there are two great events to attend.

This year, only 34 films from around the world have been chosen to compete in the festival, and “Steeped” is one of them! We are honored and excited to be included in this long tradition of independent cinema in the Northwest. The film festival happens March 6 - 8, 2009 and an All Access Pass is only $20, while a One Day Pass is $12.

“Steeped” will screen at 7:30pm on Saturday, March 7 in the LaSells Stewart Center on the campus of Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.

In December, the wideshot team traveled to Echo Park in Los Angeles, California to attend the 1st annual Zero Film Festival. We had a wonderful time, enjoyed some really great independent cinema, and saw our short film “Steeped” play on the big screen in its first-ever film festival. And now it has just been announced that “Steeped” has won a Cinematic Soldier Purple Heart Award!

Additionally, “Steeped” has been chosen to travel with the Zero Film Festival’s West Coast Tour starting in late February. A selection of the films that competed at the festival will travel down the west coast from Seattle to Orange County. If you are in any of these cities, please check out the tour!

“The Mixtress” will screen at PIFF

We are very pleased to announce that our documentary, “The Mixtress,” will be screening this year at the Portland International Film Festival. Last week we were contacted by the festival’s organizers who requested that we screen our film in their OREGON MADE section of the festival. We are extremely honored to be part of the 32nd annual PIFF festival.

“Steeped” to Premiere in Los Angeles

On Saturday December 6th at 6:25pm, “Steeped,” a short film produced by wideshot studios of Portland, OR, will make its world premiere at the 1st annual Zero Film Festival in downtown Los Angeles, CA. The film is directed by Peter Hermes, produced by Diana Bayless, and stars October Teal Moore, Thomas Bradley, Juliana Tobón, and Fro Waters.

“Steeped” centers around a cup of tea. Jake and Dana are a couple caught in the routines of their stale relationship. Jake works during the day while Dana stays home with her hobbies. In the mornings and evenings they occupy the same space. While washing dishes one night, Jake becomes infatuated with the woman next door. She is beautiful, new, dangerous, and, most importantly, not Dana. He begins to spend all of his time at the kitchen window. Dana has her cup of tea, and a secret or two of her own.
